YOU WON'T BE BACK

All versions in my collection as of July 27th 2017
Year of release:
1992

Tracklist:
A: pain they face
B: you won't be back

I own nine different versions but this NAR discography mentions only two pressings which might still be true. If it is all black vinyl copies had to be pressed in one go but not enough inserts and covers had to have been made at the time so Mike would have had new inserts (this time with better contrast so you can actually read the lyrics) and new covers made. The first press glossy covers probably only didn't suffice for the last few copies of the black vinyl press run because the later used matt covers rarely pop up with black vinyl while the whole 2005 pressing has them.
Mike Hartsfield kept quite a few of his releases in press over the years so the black vinyl with glossy cover and readable lyric insert (the first one had such high contrast that the text merged with the dark background) and the black vinyl with matt cover might be 2nd and/ or 3rd pressings. Which would mean there are between 3 and 4 pressings. I guess we'll never know.

Unfortunately I also couldn't find any info on how many copies of any of the pressings were made.

The 2005 color vinyl pressing is a mixed color which means there are varying shades ranging from orange to pink. I have 4 copies that are all very much different from one another. At first I believed that this pressing was supposed to be on a mixed orange colored vinyl and that while trying to get the color right a few pink copies were made. Turns out it was supposed to be on pink and they just couldn't get the color right except for a few copies. Mike Hartsfield, owner of New Age Records, pointed that out after I posted my pink vinyl copy on Instagram.

The black vinyl w/ matt cover is probably the hardest to come by. I've seen loads of glossy covers but hardly ever a matt one. Also it's pretty tricky to get the glossy cover with the brighter lyricsheet.

I'm not sure if it's due to the difference between the cover being glossy or matt but the colors are a little different. Which you can only see when you put them Side By Side. Check the comparison pictures at the bottom to see what I'm talking about.

TEST PRESS
Only one set of test-pressings is known to exist but no info on how many were made. the fact that different pens were used to mark the records might suggest otherwise but that's only a guess and not confirmed.

Comparisons:

color vinyl

Top right is the first color copy I ever owned and it turned out to be the most pink of all the orange copies I have but back then it was really difficult to tell. It still looks very orange when you can't compare it to other copies. I only realized this when I ordered the two copies in the bottom row. The left one came first and is clearly different to both others but didn't make me think that what I already had was leaning towards pink. This I only noticed when the bottom right copy arrived. That one is definitely far from pink, except for the little "smudge" on the left. Compared to the real deal though none of these look even remotely close to being pink. Nevertheless they do perfectly show the range of the orange color copies. At least until I come across an orange copy that is even more pink than my oldest.

 dark vs. bright lyricsheet

glossy vs. flat front cover
note the slightly different colors on the title

glossy vs. matt back cover
note the difference in color and brightness
glossy version lying under the matt one

  1. There is a pink vinyl version. I have a picture of it, although I do not own one myself. It's just a variant from the orange vinyl repressing.
